VOLUME #14: Unsolicited Architecture
|
Volume is a project by ARCHIS + AMO + C-LAB + MIT + ...
In order to actively grapple with the challenges of our age, architects have to transform themselves from extremely competent executors of assignments into entrepreneurs and producers. This issue of Volume discusses essential tools to reclaim professional autonomy. In the first part, Volume sits 'Around the table' with forward-thinking practitioners who see a different role and responsibility for architects. The central part presents the portfolio of the Office for Unsolicited Architecture founded by Ole Bouman and students of MIT. The third part marks the unsolicited world according to young architects and artists from around the globe. |

Volume in Conversations with Liam Gillick
|
Friday January 18 18:00, Rotterdam
At the opening of the Liam Gillick 'mid-career retrospective' in Witte de With, Centre for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam, Volume will have a conversation with the artist. Gillick is known for his quality to avoid definition and for his ability to offset expectation. The invitation to present at Witte de With was accepted by Gillick inviting the staff of Witte de With to program part of the space during his 'presence' in the art centre. Volume will confront Gillick's method of working with the theme of V14: Unsolicited Architecture as a strategy and a practice.

THE LOST ROOM | |
|
In the Lebanese National Museum the room dealing with modern history is not there. Apparently there is no agreement on what Lebanon's 'National' history is. Yet Lebanese seem to be united in the love for their capital. Although it is a contested and violent city, Beirut encapsulates many places, which are full of sweet, loving, memories and nostalgia. Indeed it is a city saturated with favorite places. Find out more by exploring The Lost Room website, and find these special places and read about their memories. |
